In terms of its looks, the iPhone 8 is not remarkably different from earlier iPhone models such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. On the inside, however, much has changed: Apple has introduced several features that allow you to do completely new things with your iPhone.
So, we’ve put together a list of 5 neat things you can do with the iPhone 8!
AR – Augmented reality
Probably the most impressive new feature of the iPhone 8 is its ability to run augmented reality (AR) apps. They don’t need multiple cameras or sensors to function – AR apps simply rely on the iPhone 8’s rear camera.
Since AR technology is still relatively new and not so widely used, the number of apps using AR is constantly increasing. AR provides a completely new way for people to play games, learn and shop. It’s also useful in everyday life: you can use AR to, for example, measure things easily without a tape measure.
The world-famous furniture retailer IKEA has also launched its own AR app. IKEA Place provides 3D models of IKEA furniture and allows the user to position them in real-world surroundings. This means you don’t have to actually buy a sofa or chair and transport it to your living room to see whether it fits or not. You can simply use the IKEA app to find out. The app also allows users to buy and order products.
Powerful photo editing
The iPhone 8 features Apple’s powerful new A11 Bionic processor and an improved camera. These qualities make the iPhone 8 an excellent tool even for professional photographers.
The App Store boasts a great collection of photo editing apps. With the right apps, you can make your photos look superb and professional – quickly and effortlessly. One of our favourites is Photofox . It combines the simplicity of mobile editing with the power and countless features of desktop apps, such as Adobe Photoshop.
The app allows you to edit images in layers, which is an important function in professional photo editing. Creating unique designs with graphic elements is easy and uncomplicated.
The app is free but contains in-app purchases.
4K video
The iPhone 8’s camera is among the most powerful smartphone cameras on the market. One of its finest features is its ability to shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. The iPhone 8 is one of the few smartphones capable of this – even many full-fledged SLR cameras are not.
What’s more, the iPhone 8 can also record excellent slow motion video at 240 frames per second with 1080p resolution.
If you want to customise your iPhone’s camera settings, go to Settings > Camera.
Portraits with Portrait Lighting
Apple introduced the astonishing Portrait photo mode in the iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone 8 Plus takes things to the next level with Portrait Lighting.
In brief, Portrait photo mode allows you to take sharp portrait photos of your subject with a blurred background. The iPhone 8 Plus, however, gives you the option of adding special lighting effects – just like in real a studio.
The best part is that once you’ve taken a photo using Portrait mode, you can still change the lighting settings afterwards to make your photo look exactly like you want it to.
You can customise the light settings of a portrait photo you already took by simply tapping Edit on the photo in the Photos app. The Portrait Lighting wheel will come up, which you can slide to adjust the image settings.
Screen recording
The new iPhones come with native screen recording built in – there’s no need for third-party apps.
This new feature is available in the iPhone’s Control Centre, which you can access by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. The screen recording icon is not in the Control Centre by default; you will have to add it by going to the iPhone’s settings.
You can add the screen recording function to the Control Centre as follows: Settings > Control Centre > Screen Recording.
